UPDATE TO JULY 22nd BCC MEETING

We Need your attendence and help with emails!!!

We at FoSGC want to thank you for your support in helping preserve our piece of Paradise. We have received the staff report and the conditions for the Harbor Village Proposed Development (PD). The good news is that the Applicant (Maronda Homes) has agreed with the community input eliminating docks along the Interconnector Waterway and has inserted as part of the PD, on page 1 clearly stating that as a condition of approval, “All boat docks shall be located within the Marina Boat Basin. Boat docks are prohibited along the Interconnector Waterway and the Butterford waterway.” Thanks to our efforts and the support of you, the community! We have it in writing as part of the PD! In short you asked for this in writing, and we can say it is there!

We still urgently need your help to move this further. As you all stated at the last Town Hall, the protection of the natural habitat is a MUST!  We continue to work towards this goal. We continue to communicate with the County Commissioners, Staff and the Applicant to preserve the natural habitat along the Interconnector in perpetuity. To that end we need your support at July 22, 2025, BCC meeting where this final approval will be discussed. Your attendance at that meeting and continued emails to the BCC are needed. It does mean sacrificing your afternoon, but we are very close to getting the land along the waterway preserved and attendance will be a key factor in making that happen! Please be there no later than 2PM and help us to motivate the commissioners to place these conditions on the PD.

Additionally, we need to ensure the BCC is aware of our concerns and ask you to please send emails to the commissioners regarding this status. We would really appreciate it if you could send an email to the BCC at :

Please send emails to the BCC and let them know your concerns, some of which we have tried to capture below:

· We are concerned that natural habitat is being destroyed by new developments, we need to ensure the County and/or State enforce and hold responsible those that are destroying critical habitats at an alarming rate. The evidence of what has happened at the Lennar developments is a perfect example of this wanton elimination of natural habitat and mangroves.

· South Gulf Cove and neighboring community residents have witnessed multiple infractions on the part of homeowners in Harbor West and East that have negative impacts on the environment, wildlife, and their neighbors' welfare, with little to no repercussions from the county, even after multiple reports of code violations

· We are concerned about Water Quality and want to ensure the County is monitoring and finds ways to ensure water quality is of prime importance. We do not want to become the Algal Bloom Capital of Charlotte County!

· While we appreciate Maronda's conditions of eliminating private docks from their plan and intending to leave mangrove forests undisturbed, there is justifiable cause for concern about actions that individual homeowners have taken after moving in. "That mangrove tree doesn't fit into my landscaping scheme; I'll just tear it out."

We appreciate the compromises Maronda has made and their dedication to ensuring flood mitigation and protection of the environment, however we continue to see unmitigated violations of over the water construction and removal of habitat, which is key to marine life. In many cases the protected species that only thrive on the exact environment they need to survive are being destroyed. We urge the County Commissioners to make these conditions permanent, protect the Florida landscape and do what is best for all the neighboring communities and Charlotte County.
